Balayage is an extraordinary hair highlighting technique that is adaptable and efficient. It is a powerful and creative tool in the hands of a colorist. Babylights are delicate highlights created using a very fine hair color technique to mimic the subtle, dimensional hair color The application process is very similar to highlights, the difference is the amount of hair in each foil and the separation between. For babylights, you use just a little bit of hair and create small sperarations between foils so the highlights blend with the base color.”

Ombre hair! Ombre is a french word meaning graduation. In my world (the salon) it means a a base that is at least 3-4 levels darker than the ends. To most people it means I can have visible roots, long ones and bright pretty ends. It reduces your color maintenance, because “your roots” are visible and beautiful when you leave your appointment. If your natural color is lighter than your chosen base color, or you have grey hair this means that you can have every other appointment at the salon be a root touch up and the following appointment be a Ombre procedure. It’s fun, it’s beautiful, it’s trendy but it’s easy to carry off. You don’t have to be 16 or have really long thick hair, or lots of money to spend on your hair.

Sombre As ombre fades out, the color trend is being taken over by sombre, a more subtle version of ombre. It’s a faded look with highlights added around the face and a much more gradual descent into a brighter shade of your natural hair color.

Dimension: Dimension is a function of the range of tones in your hair. A head of hair that is all one color is said to be “flat” or lacking dimension. Your stylist can add dimension to your hair with highlights or lowlights.

Double-process: A double-process color refers to anytime two color services are done in one visit. Generally this is done by doing the first color service, washing and drying the hair, then doing the second color. This can include lightening the hair then applying a toner, or doing a permanent color followed by a glaze.

Express Highlights: Express Highlights are done by applying a small amount of foils or painted-on pieces, usually focused on framing the face.

Glaze: Glazes involve using a semi-permanent color to enhance, enrich, change, match, tone down or intensify natural or color-treated hair while harmonizing contrast.
